Elea PEF Chip Day 2025 showcases the future of potato chip production

On 9 October 2025, Elea Technology GmbH opened its doors to chip producers, food industry professionals, and partners from across the globe for the Elea PEF Chip Day 2025 at its headquarters in Quakenbrück, Germany. The event provided an in-depth look at the latest innovations in Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) processing for potato chips.

PEF Technology: Transforming Potato Chip Production

The event focused on the many advantages of Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) technology for potato chip production, demonstrating how PEF is reshaping the industry. From a warm welcome by Managing Director Stefan Toepfl to presentations and live demonstrations, the day offered valuable insights into PEF’s practical applications.

For the potato industry, PEF provides a range of measurable benefits — including up to a 50% reduction in cutting force and extended knife durability. The improved cutting process also leads to lower fat uptake and prevents starch leakage into the processing water, resulting in higher production yields and enhanced texture and quality of the final product.

Innovation in Action: Industry Insights & System Launches

Even before the event officially began, customers had the opportunity to visit potato chip companies using Elea’s PEF technology, offering a real-world showcase of PEF in action. This hands-on experience allowed attendees to see firsthand how Elea’s innovative solutions are applied in the industry, setting the stage for the event.

Guests at Elea PEF Chip Day 2025

Highlights of the event included industry insights from Mathias Henningsen (ScanStore A/S), who shared the story of Elea’s collaboration with Sørlandschips, and Tomislav Lukačević (Kanaan), who discussed the installation of the first Elea PEF Advantage B1 system in their potato chip line and how it elevated their production to the next level.

Another centrepiece was the official launch of the Elea PEF Advantage B Micro, a compact, all-in-one system designed for smaller production lines, with a capacity of up to 1.7 t/h, providing both efficiency and versatility for chip producers.

Through live demonstrations, participants experienced the benefits of PEF firsthand. A key moment was the PiCon demonstration. PiCon integrates Artificial Intelligence with acoustic signal analysis to assess the effectiveness of PEF treatments in real time, providing cutting-edge insights for process optimization and adjust PEF treatment accordingly.

Networking, Insights, and Closing Highlights

After the official program concluded, participants had the opportunity to take part in one-on-one sessions with Elea experts, discussing specific needs, ideas, and product testing opportunities. Guests also joined a DIL e.V. (German Institute of Food Technology) & Manufacturing Tour, visiting the leading institute dedicated to research and development of innovations in food technology.

The day concluded with a delightful dinner under the theme “Chip & Sip: A Scotch Whisky Tasting”, featuring a tasting led by David Allardice.

Elea Technology GmbH thanks all participants for attending the Elea PEF Chip Day. The event showcased the company’s commitment to innovation in PEF technology and provided a platform for networking and knowledge sharing within the potato chip industry.
